This is a guide on creating a simple fish-eye effect in Spark Ar for your Instagram and Facebook Filters.

Before you hop into this guide, make sure to download this patch here. This is required to create the effect and makes it very simple.

After you have downloaded the patch you are ready to go! 😎

1. Create a new Spark AR Project

2. Import the patch into your Project

Just drag & drop the “simple fish-eye.arp” into the assets panel.

3. Open the Patch Editor

  • MacOS: Option + Command + P
  • Windows: Ctrl + Alt + P

4. Drag & Drop the Patch into the Patch Editor

5. Create a new material

Create a new material and set the shader type to “flat” and extract the texture input to the Patch Editor.

6. Creat a rectangle object

Create a rectangle object in the scene and set the with and height to “fill”. (100: Relative)

7. Extract the camera texture from the camera object and import it to the patch editor.

Select the camera in the scene panel, go to the properties (right-hand site), and click on the plus next to “Texture Extraction”.
You can find the extracted texture in the assets panel. Then you just have to drag & drop it into the patch editor!

8. Connect the patches

Just connect the patches like in the picture below.

9. Set the material for the rectangle

Select the rectangle in the scene and set the material in the properties!

10. Set the patch to the right strength

Now you can adjust the strength of the effect at the orange “Simple Fish-Eye” Patch in the patch editor.

Congrats! You successfully created a simple fish-eye effect for your Instagram effect! 🎉
