We live in a time where it is easier than ever before to get information, directions or to communicate with friends. Our tiny magical devices in our pockets connecting and tracking us on every step of our journey.

Sometimes we don’t even realize how often our smartphone helps us to get things done.

There are also a lot of apps that are helping us day by day which makes living in a car more enjoyable. In this post, I want to share my top 5 mobile apps we think everyone needs on a road trip.

PEE.PLACE

Let’s start with an App that will be there for you in situations when you really need a bathroom. Unless you have an onboard toilette, then you can skip this.

This app isn’t an actual app. You can access this service with your phone browser. Just go to pee.place and find the nearest public bathroom. We are really surprised by this big dataset of public toilets.

Park4Night

The must-have app for people who are avoiding campgrounds. It is a community-driven app, that shows you spot for the night around you. You will get some information, ratings, and pictures of the places on the map.

But you have to keep in mind that not all of those places are official “sleeping places”.

Please keep all the places clean and don’t disturb people around you.

Pocket Earth Maps

This App is like Google Maps but with a lot more details. It feels like everything in the world got a label and registered in this app. You can find everything you need there. Really handy when you are searching for garbage bins, grocery stores, or public parking lots in a foreign place.

Instagram

There is a big vanlife community out there and there is a place where they are gathering, this place is called Instagram. You will find a ton of other travel enthusiasts there to connect with. Finding inspirations and great places to visit is really easy with Instagram.

Google Maps

Yeah! We all know that Google Maps is very handy for navigation, but it has a pretty cool not-as-known feature I want to show you.

Let’s imagine, you found a cool place on Instagram you want to visit. But at the moment you are far away from it but you want to save the place so you can visit it when you are around. This is where Google Maps comes in, because you can create a kind of bucket list of places you want to visit.

Just search the place you want to save and hit “Save”. After saving the place will be marked with a pin on the map and when you are around you can visit the places.

Apps make our life on the road much easier!

I hope I could show you some cool apps that you can integrate into your travels.

Thanks for reading!
